Kita Montgomery

KITA MONTGOMERY Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Kita has been singing all of her life with deep roots in gospel music. She sings blues, funk, jazz, and a little rock & roll, as well as the occasional country tune.

Kita started singing in church at the age of three, and gave her first real performance to Mayor Daley at the McCormick Place Ballroom in Chicago at the age of ten. Since then, Kita has lived her music and enhanced her gift while working with many night club acts, choirs and choral groups. Her list of concert venues includes nearly every major festival and night club between Portland, Eastern Oregon, and lately into Canada. All of this rich exposure and honing of talent has made Kita a favorite Northwest songstress. She enjoys strolling through the audience encouraging the crowd to participate, and her Koko Taylor-style renditions of blues classics are a special treat, but it is her heart that shines through and touches the listener most.

Kita grieved the loss of her great husband/keyboardist Jeff Metzner in October 2000. Now she is back with more power and a tone that must be experienced in person. She currently performs at church, with Jamie’s Rock & Roll Legends, John Pounds Lb. 4 Lb. Band, and as a soloist for private parties. Kita has performed with local Northwest greats Curtis Salgado, Norman Sylvester, Linda Hornbuckle, Duffy Bishop and many others. She has had the pleasure of opening for artists such as the Neville Brothers, BB King, and Charley Musselwhite…to name a few.

Kita is the mother of two grown daughters, who now live on the East Coast.
